Sunday, June 8 was a vibrant celebration of culture and pride at the National Day Parade, where legendary actor Luis Guzmán—known for his roles in Carlito’s WayWe’re the MillersDumb and Dumber ToStory AveWednesdayNarcos, and more—was crowned King of the Parade.

It was a full-circle moment for me, as I had the honor of taking a class with him back in the ’90s when he worked as a youth counselor at Henry Street Settlement. I still remember him telling us he was an actor—now, he’s a star lighting up screens and parades alike. The event was packed with energy, featuring appearances by Luis Crespo of Suavemente fame, and a rumored sighting of Bad Bunny (though some say it was a lookalike). Reality TV star Joseline Hernandez turned up the heat with her signature dance moves. With salsa dancing in the streets, delicious food, and nonstop music, the day was a beautiful celebration of culture, community, and Puerto Rican pride.
