🕵️♀️ The New Hermès Installation Is a Mystery You Get to Solve—With Style
Forget doomscrolling—Hermès wants you to put on your detective hat and step into a world where fashion meets mystery. Starting June 19, New York’s Pier 36 has been transformed into a whimsical, theatrical playground for the brand’s latest immersive experience: “Mystery at the Grooms.”
This isn’t your typical fashion exhibit. It’s a life-sized mystery novel brought to life, where you—yes, you—play the lead detective. Armed with a mobile app and 60 minutes on the clock, your mission is to track down a herd of runaway horses that have mysteriously vanished from the stables. The clues? Hidden in plain sight across six elaborately designed rooms, each bursting with Hermès magic.
As you explore, you’ll find yourself in spaces like:
🥕 The Pantry, where Birkins and Kellys lounge among hay bales, carrots, and corn.
🍽️ The Refectory, where Hermès china spins on massive, surreal food displays.
🛏️ The Dormitory, where striped bedding climbs the walls and horses peek from under Rocabar blankets.
🖇️ The Head Groom’s Office, where saddles and riding boots are poised for action.
Each room is a visual feast, showcasing Hermès’ 16 métiers—from leather and silk to ready-to-wear and home décor. But this isn’t just about admiring the craftsmanship. You’ll need to follow hoofprints, solve puzzles, and decode clues narrated by the velvet-voiced Mr. Honoré (yes, named after the famed Parisian street). Some horses are hidden behind passcodes, others require eagle eyes—or just the right number of carrots in a motorized pot.
🎁 Find them all, and you’ll walk away with a prize. But even if you don’t, the journey is the reward.
As Hermès artistic director Pierre-Alexis Dumas puts it:
“Playing means being together. Play is movement, freedom, imagination, fantasy, lightness… and the horse is our first companion in the playground of creation.”
Whether you’re a fashion lover, puzzle solver, or just looking for a unique escape, Mystery at the Grooms is a must-see summer experience that proves luxury can be playful—and unforgettable.
