HFR x Macy’s: Celebrating Black Fashion Excellence for Black History Month

This Black History Month, I had the honor of interviewing several incredible Black designers featured at Macy’s through Harlem’s Fashion Row—each one bringing their own artistry, story, and cultural impact to the forefront of fashion.

Kaphill—Denim, Elevated

I sat down with designer Kaphill, whose mastery of denim is nothing short of art. His pieces blend structure, elegance, and a timeless sense of class. He’s redefining what denim can be — not just casual, but couture‑level craftsmanship.

BruceGlen — Color, Joy, and Twin Creativity

I also interviewed the vibrant twin designers behind BruceGlen, known for their bold use of color and fearless creativity. Their pieces lit up the Macy’s storefront, turning the space into a joyful, fashion‑forward experience that reflects their signature energy.

Montee Holland — Tayion Collection on the 5th Floor

Designer Montee Holland, founder of Tayion, continues to bring luxury menswear to new heights. His collection, proudly displayed on Macy’s 5th floor, is tailored, sophisticated, and rooted in excellence. His presence in such a major retail space is a powerful moment for Black designers everywhere.

Arron Potts — Designing for Creatives, Not Just Celebrities

My conversation with Arron Potts was especially meaningful. Known for his sleek, mostly‑black designs, Arron creates for real creatives — not just celebrities on red carpets or in magazines. As he shared during our interview, “That doesn’t always pay the bills.” I couldn’t agree more. His work is intentional, wearable, and built for the people who actually move culture.

Ben Oni Jewelry—Resilience, Reinvention, and Luxury

I also had the pleasure of interviewing Ashley, the Jamaican‑American founder of Ben Oni Jewelry. Her story is one of resilience: after losing her job during COVID and battling depression, she turned her pain into purpose by creating beautiful, accessible luxury jewelry. Her pieces radiate class, intention, and strength — and I’m so proud of her journey.

The event itself was everything: amazing food, great wine, meaningful networking, and of course — shopping. It was a celebration of Black creativity, entrepreneurship, and the designers who continue to shape the future of fashion. Black History Month at Macy’s, powered by HFR, wasn’t just an event. It was a reminder of the brilliance, resilience, and innovation that Black designers bring to the industry every single day.
