Triumph Awards 2025: A Night of Legacy, Justice, and Joy

Triumph Awards 2025: A Night of Legacy, Justice, and Joy

The Triumph Awards returned with soul, purpose, and celebration—marking Reverend Al Sharpton’s birthday with a night that honored Black excellence, resilience, and truth. Held in New York City, the event was more than a party—it was a living tribute to those who’ve shaped culture, challenged injustice, and uplifted community.

🎤 Honoring the Central Park Five—Now Men of Purpose

One of the most moving moments was seeing the Central Park Five—now grown men—stand in their truth. Once falsely accused of a crime that shook the nation, their presence was a reminder of perseverance and redemption. Two are now active in politics, and one works closely with Al Sharpton, continuing the fight for justice from within.

🎶 Gospel, R&B, and Soulful Testimony

Gospel powerhouse Vincent Bohanan stirred hearts with his rendition of “God Is Not There When I Want Him, But He’s Right On Time”—a message that echoed through the room.

Stephanie Mills, radiant and rooted, shared how her parents were Black activists who instilled a lifelong commitment to justice. She gifted the audience with a snippet of “Home” in honor of Al’s birthday, reminding us all where our strength lies.

🏆 Honorees Who Inspire

  • Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, the 13-time Grammy-winning R&B legend, spoke candidly about being turned away from establishments as a child because of his skin color. His legacy in music is matched by his courage to speak truth.

  • Mr. Soo Kim, Chairman of Bally Corporation, and Chelsey Maddox-Dorsey, a trailblazer in media and business, were also honored for their contributions to industry and equity.

🗳️ A Glimpse of the Future

New York Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, now running for mayor, brought fresh energy and vision to the political landscape—reflecting NAN’s commitment to civic engagement and leadership development.

🎉 A Birthday to Remember

The night closed with a joyful surprise: a James Brown tribute performance that had Al Sharpton dancing with infectious energy. At 71 years young, Al reminded us that joy is resistance, and movement is medicine.
