“The Journey,” a new retrospective of Chuck Connelly (1955–2025), has opened in Tribeca, offering New York a fresh encounter with one of Neo‑Expressionism’s most uncompromising voices. Curated by Adrienne Connelly, the exhibition runs March 19 through April 16, 2026, at 83 Leonard Street, welcoming visitors Tuesday through Saturday or by appointment. Bringing together paintings, drawings, and documentary footage, the show traces Connelly’s life and career through themes of turmoil, transformation, and artistic resilience. The gallery frames the exhibition as a look at creativity’s redemptive power—how an artist can wrestle with adversity and still produce work that feels raw, emotional, and defiantly individual. It’s a reminder of why Connelly’s imagery continues to resonate: layered, theatrical, and unwilling to conform.

The opening reception drew longtime admirers, art lovers, and media who experienced the work alongside poetry readings and live performance. It felt like a fitting tribute to an artist whose presence once shaped the New York art scene of the 1980s, earning recognition alongside figures like Julian Schnabel and Jean‑Michel Basquiat. Connelly’s story—captured in films, documentaries, and even a Martin Scorsese project—adds another layer to the viewing experience.

“The Journey” reintroduces Connelly not just as a painter, but as a force whose vision remained unfiltered until the end. For both devoted followers and new audiences, the exhibition offers a rare chance to see the full scope of a career defined by intensity, vulnerability, and an unwavering commitment to expression.
