Instagram going back to chronological feed

Ever since Instagram stopped showing users a chronological feed of photos and videos, users have been annoyed. As an Instagrammer, it can be frustrating not to see the most recent posts from friends, family, celebrities, influencers, and anyone else followed. It’s jarring to have days-old posts above just-posted Instas when scrolling through your feed. But Instagram is fixing that…kind of.

While they are not going back to a solely chronological feed, they’re “making changes to ensure that newer posts are more likely to appear first in feed.” Kevin Weil, VP of product at Instagram, tweeted that the change is “focused on making the feed fresher.”

Instagram is also testing a “New Posts” button that lets you choose when you want to refresh the feed. If you tap it, you will see brand new posts at the top of your feed, and if you don’t, you will stay where you are.

It remains to be seen exactly when this will roll out to everyone and how it will change the experience of scrolling through Instagram. The company noted that more changes are coming, and they’ll make further announcements down the road.

May this mark the end of the non-chronological feed agony—one that was so bad, it became a meme online:
