I had the pleasure of attending the 6th Annual NYC Second Chance Rescue Ball at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers, and the evening was truly unforgettable. The room was filled with beautifully dressed guests, elegant décor, and — stealing everyone’s attention — the cutest rescue dogs you could imagine. Sparkly collars, tiny bow ties, and wagging tails were everywhere.
Throughout the night, I met several individuals who had adopted dogs through NYC Second Chance Rescue. Hearing their personal stories about giving these animals a second chance added so much heart to the event.
One of the most meaningful moments for me was interviewing Jennifer Brooks, the President and Founder of NYC Second Chance Rescue.
She shared how her passion for animals began in childhood and how learning about the high euthanasia rates in NYC shelters pushed her to take action. Her organization has now saved more than 17,000 animals, focusing on large‑breed dogs and pets needing critical medical care.The gala honored Ralph Macchio, Rob & Marisol Thomas of the Sidewalk Angels Foundation, and Dr. Tom Walker for their dedication to animal welfare. I also had the chance to speak with Elaine Hendrix, the actress and longtime animal rights advocate known for The Parent Trap and Dynasty.
Both she and Ralph Macchio brought warmth, authenticity, and genuine passion to the cause.
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian and vegan menu, specialty cocktails, and lively auctions — all supporting the rescue’s mission to rehabilitate and rehome animals at risk of euthanasia.
