The 67th annual Grammy Awards kicked off the new year with a bang, showcasing emerging talent while paying tribute to seasoned artists and the vibrant city of Los Angeles, all sprinkled with unexpected moments throughout the evening. One of the earliest jaw-dropping highlights occurred just before the ceremony began, as Kanye West’s wife, Bianca Censori, made a bold statement on the red carpet, appearing with little more than a fur coat. This eye-catching entrance didn’t slow down the night’s energy, as rising stars Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan took the stage, captivating an audience of 15.4 million viewers with their hit songs.
The performances that followed from other Best New Artist nominees—Khruangbin, Benson Boone, Doechii, Teddy Swims, Shaboozey, and Raye—further showcased the incredible talent of the new music generation.
The evening also featured electrifying performances from industry veterans like Billie Eilish, Shakira, and Charli XCX, who had the audience dancing between award presentations. To honor the victims of the devastating LA wildfires, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars delivered a heartfelt rendition of “California Dreamin’” by The Mamas & the Papas. Additionally, the legacy of the late Quincy Jones was celebrated through a unique collaboration of artists, including Cynthia Erivo, Lainey Wilson, Jacob Collier, Stevie Wonder, and Janelle Monáe, who performed a medley of his greatest hits. The most surprising moment of the night came from The Weeknd, an artist many thought wouldn’t return to the Grammys. He took the stage to perform tracks from his latest album, “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” igniting excitement among the crowd after being introduced by Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. Before the performance, Mason reassured everyone that the Grammy voting process has seen significant improvements in recent years.
